WOSC 8 Hour Race 2017

The WOSC annual 8 Hour Race took place on Sunday 27th September.  For those members who have not competed in the race or not spectated, I will attempt to give you a flavour of what you have missed.  Read about it here.

Les and Graham win!

14:56:17 on Sunday 25 May 2014 was the time at which Les and Graham finished the second race of the day.  To the great surprise, nay amazement, of many it was in fact the winning time.  After the RO had checked, rechecked and checked his calculations once again it was announced that Les and Graham were indeed the winners of the race.  In fact the RO spent so much time performing his calculations that the last race was started late.  Read about it here.

Alexander and the Handbrake

See Alexander's great starts and the magnificent Wayfarer Handbrake demonstrated by Les and Graham.  Read about it here.

Shock! Horror! Wayfarer using tired old rags beats Albacore with brand new sails (made by dyslexic sailmaker) on the water

On Sunday Richard and Tom stormed round the lake proving that "Flat is Fast".

Les and Graham unable to sail

Les and Graham were unable to sail on 30 September, which was a beautiful day.

Les was nursing a nasty face wound received at Stockport when he was bitten by an angry dog.  Graham says there are a lot of dogs in Stockport.

Graham, on the other hand had problems with his plumbing.  Les reckons it's Graham's age!

Check out the latest pictures which include: OK Worlds in Denmark, WOSC 8 Hour Race and Sunday 29 July when Les and Graham flew the flag (and the Police turned up).

For future reference Les, as any vexillologist will tell you, the easy way to know if the Union Flag is the correct way up is to look for the fimbriation of the ordinaries.  If the fimbriation is below the saltire in the upper hoist canton, then the flag is being flown correctly.

joomla templates

Having made the decision to construct a new website I decided to use Joomla, which is a sophisticated CMS. In theory this should allow me to create a professional and easily altered site.

Once I had committed to using Joomla I needed to decide whether to build the site from scratch (theoretically possible, but complicated for a beginner) or use a ready made template and amend it to suit my requirements.

I wanted to have the site up and running fairly quickly, so decided to use a template. Then I was left with the decision of which template to choose. Joomlage.com appeared to create template designs which appealed to me and are flexible in their layout to suit most individuals or businesses. I chose to start with a free template, but the commercial templates can be bought for between €15.00 and €18.00. Not a huge amount considering that Joomla itself is free!

The installation of my Joomlage.com template was simplicity itself. Once I had the basic site up and running I wanted to make it look a little more professional and found that I didn't understand enough about Joomla to achieve what I wanted. In spite of the fact that I was using a free template I got wonderful, prompt support from John at Joomlage.com. I can thoroughly recommend Joomlage.com for anyone wanting to venture into the exciting world of Joomla website creation.

This is the special weather forecast for the Stockport (Southport) 24 hour race over the weekend of 7 - 7 September 2013.

On Sunday 16 September Andrew and Marion brought their shiny new Albacore to WOSC for her first outing.  The boat came from the North of Scotland and was delivered most of the way by Stewart.

Apparently the trip South was conducted in the rain and when Stewart arrived home he realised that there was a considerable quantity of water trapped in the undercover and was seeping onto the ground.  Top tip for cover manufacturers.  Cut a slit in the bottom of undercovers to let water escape!

What Andrew discovered when he uncovered his new baby was that red nylon undercovers and pristine white GRP hulls and decks don't mix.  Well actually they do mix with the result that there were several red patches on the hull and deck where the colour had bled from the undercover to the GRP.

This gave Andrew the ideal opportunity to use a couple of Farecla professional detailing products to remove the red stains and then polish the complete hull and decks.  The result was astonishing.  Water beaded off the hull just like a professionally prepared Rolls Royce.  Andrew was very modest about the result, but I would not be surprised if the kitchen sink and surfaces chez Andrew and Marion are similarly gleaming and spotless.

Enjoy the pictures.  I can't be held responsible for the weather!  The only negative point of the day was that someone forgot to bring the champagne to crack across the bow.

This page shows the weather in West Hanney.  It has been placed here specially for Dave who did not comment on the overall content of the site, but just asked for this.  A terrible shame that he does not appreciate the whole site.

Never mind.  I am sure that I can put up some embarrassing pictures of him and crew Bob!
